Workington plays host to its very own Beer & Cider Festival on Thursday 18th, Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September. The festival will also host some of the best bands and musicians currently working in the county (and beyond) in a musical celebration that encompasses rockabilly, stomping rnb, country, blues, Celtic rock, punk-folk and good-time, sing-along rocknroll.
This years festival is the most ambitious in the events history with more of the very best selection of local and national beers and ciders to sample and enjoy. Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 6.00pm to midnight culminates in a veritable feast of fine musical treats that will serve as the perfect accompaniment to the choice selection of beverages on offer.
As well as creating a splendid annual music and beer event that pulls in the crowds and leaves those attending with great memories, the festival benefits a host of charities and good causes on a national and international level. Last years Workington Beer & Cider Festival managed to raise in excess of 8000.
Thursday sees sets from Plastic Paddy, West Cumbrias very own tribute to Irish/Celtic music in single-person form; brand-new retro-rockabilly revivalists The Mustangz fronted by the gorgeous tones of the delectable Miss Dee, and the North Easts kings of jumping and hot rnb, The Revolutionaires.
Friday sees Dublin-born singer and guitarist Paul OHalloran offering his own distinctive take on folk, rock and pop classics, followed by the raucous and crazy combination of countrynIrish music courtesy of The Holborn Hillbillies, with a closing set from local favourites The Bleedin Blaggards offering their unique amalgamation of blues, country, reggae and Irish music with a dash of rocknsoul!
Saturday night culminates in an appearance by Ulverstons very own Bag Of Spanners, a supercharged Celtic combo channelling the energy and excitement of the early Pogues through a Celtic rocknfolk filter, with support from Workington-based six-piece The Hoochie Coochie Moonshine Band who supply their own inimitable and upbeat take on Irish and country music.
