On the occasion of their annual Christmas dinner at the George Hotel, members of Penrith Rotary Club and guests were delighted to witness three members of the club receiving prestigious awards in recognition of meritorious service.
Rotary is a worldwide organisation of like minded men and women who believe in the ideal of 'Service above Self.' Local clubs provide an opportunity for acquaintance to be developed into friendship and where community events can be organised in the furtherance of Rotary objectives.
Paul Harris Fellowships, named after the founder of the Rotary Movement may be awarded to Rotarians who have given exceptional service. This special honour recognises contribution over and above what might be considered normal or usual and is a coveted honour within the Rotary movement.
Rotarians John Shorter and John Brookfield, each past club presidents, were called forward to receive their award from Assistant District Governor Alan Hoggarth. Rotarian Jeff Fawcett, already a Paul Harris Fellow, was awarded a sapphire pin enhancement to his fellowship for an exceptional long term commitment and contribution to Rotary ideals.
Club President Malcolm Boyd explained the significance of the awards and noted that the club was extremely fortunate in having such exceptional people within the membership.
