Rotary Adventure Week at Calvert Lakes

The focus is not on people’s disabilities but on what they can achieve

"Did I really do that?  Wow!  I feel like I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it”

With its ethos of challenging disability through outdoor adventure, Calvert Lakes welcomes people of all ages with disabilities from across the UK.  The activity centre, located on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, is wonderfully equipped and led by an experienced and intuitive team of instructors who are experts at adaptive techniques.  This enables everyone, whatever their level of ability, to participate in and get the most from the activities available.

Established in 1998 our District has since hosted an annual Rotary Adventure Week at Calvert Lakes for a group of 50+ individuals living with a wide range of disabilities.  The Adventure Week provides participants with an opportunity to challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment; engage in team work; build new friendships and lasting support networks.  For vulnerable people, struggling to cope in today’s demanding world, this can be invaluable.

Who is the Rotary Adventure Week for?

  • People with a physical, mental or sensory disability
  • Individuals accompanied by a carer or:
  • Unaccompanied adults with low support needs/fully independent
  • Ages 14 and upwards
  • Under 18 years must be accompanied by parent/guardian

Typical activities include Canoeing, Climbing, Abseiling, Big Swing, Sailing, Cycling, High Ropes, Wheelchair Challenge, Zip Wire, Archery, Lakeland Walk, Bushcraft.  In the evening Swimming and Games (Curling/Skittles) are usually on the agenda.

Our Next Event will be in April 2027.  Cost: TBA

The focus at Calvert Lakes is not on people’s disabilities but on what they CAN achieve.  This builds a level of confidence and a change in perspective which individuals take back into their everyday lives.
