On Thursday 12th October members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry enjoyed a talk by PC Yocksan Bell.
Yocksan was accompanied by his daughter Matha, a youth volunteer with Police Scotland, and he gave a brief overview of the youth volunteer programme for the gathered group.
Yocksan, an officer since 1998, has worked in different roles within the Police force and for the past eight years has been the Missing Persons Operational Coordinator for Edinburgh division. His talk was entitled fascinatingly: “The Herbert Protocol”.
Yocksan explained what this partnership programme was and asked club members to raise awareness.
Families of a person with the condition are asked to download the Herbert Protocol form (from the police Scotland web site (just search for ‘Herbert’) and provide information such as places of importance to them, often visited places, health issues and places they have been found in the past if reported missing. Ownership and responsibility for updating the form remains with the family.
Since 2017, this simple form can make a huge difference in assisting the Police in locating vulnerable adults suffering with dementia.
There followed numerous questions from interested members who all agreed that this was an excellent initiative.
Yocksan was introduced by Calum Thomson. The vote of thanks was proposed by Brian Johnson.
