On Thursday 16th February, members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry enjoyed a fascinating talk by Kevin Gray from Veterans Housing Scotland. Kevin served for twenty-six years in the Scots Guards and joined Veterans Housing Scotland having been the chief executive of the Royal British Legion Scotland. He is now a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry.
Based in Ferry Road, Edinburgh, Veterans Housing Scotland was formed from two associations, both founded during the First World War, to provide homes for veterans returning with life-changing injuries. From its first development - a self-sufficient community in Longniddry - the organisation expanded rapidly to other towns and cities throughout Scotland. The Salvesen family was very closely involved since the formation of the original charities. In an interesting presentation, Kevin explained how Veterans Housing Scotland believes community development is essential for its future success. It supports the ethos of 'community within a community' and works in partnership with other organisations to provide well-being support tailored to the individual needs of veterans and their families. Kevin's role at the helm of Veterans Housing Scotland enables him to develop the organisation as Scotland's leading charity providing affordable homes for disabled veterans.
Kevin Gray was introduced by Sarah Fletcher. Liz Mackenzie proposed the vote of thanks.
