On Thursday 22nd September, President Sandy Mackenzie welcomed members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry to a joint job talk at Conifox Bistro in Kirkliston. It is customary for new members of the club to speak about their backgrounds and careers as an introduction to their fellow Rotarians.
Beatrice Thompson and Rashida Saeed were recently inducted to Rotary. Beatrice's career has been in education. After qualifying as a teacher, her first post was in Five Mile Town High School in Northern Ireland. Among several community projects at the school, she mentioned starting a new play group and supervising as the High School pupils helped to build a swimming pool. Beatrice has many interests and volunteers for several charity organisations.
Rashida talked about her family life and work helping in her father's shops. She and her husband then worked together for many years in their own grocers shop. Rashida graduated from Queen Margaret University and has held several posts in IT management. She is currently a manager in health and social care. Rashida has also worked with many charities and voluntary organisations. He sister Shamshad, who was a guest at the meeting, is a member of Kirkcaldy Rotary Club.
