President Sandy Mackenzie welcomed members and guests to the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry at Conifox Bistro on 8th September. Guests included Mark Moran, Tamsin Green, Derek Robertson from the Rotary Club of Esk Valley and Dawn Robertson, a mentor at the RYLA Girl's Camp. The speakers were Andrew Hughson, Chloe Macintosh, Grace Jones and Rebecca Wilson - four students recently returned from the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards scheme sponsored by the club. The scheme, designed to promote self-reliance and initiative, takes place at Kenmore near Loch Tay and lasts a week. Young people are involved in various outdoor activities. Andrew and Chloe gave a presentation, then Grace and Rebecca showed a selection of photographs of the week's activities. They all had a great time. A lasting memory was of building a raft to ferry camping equipment over the loch to build a shelter in which to spend the night. They explained how the course enabled to them to make new friendships and meet other young people from all over the district.
Their parents, who also attended the presentation, thanked the club for giving their children this very worthwhile experience.
