On Thursday 28th July Rotary South Queensferry enjoyed a most interesting and unusual presentation by George Ritchie. George is a member of the Westminster International Rotary Club and also the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians. Not all members of the fellowship are pilots with their own aircraft, but all have a keen interest in aviation. George's well-illustrated talk, titled North to 60 North, followed his flight path from his home in England to to Turku in Finland for an IFFR meeting in Helsinki. The trip included a refuelling stop in Germany and an overnight stay for George and his wife in Kalmar, Sweden .
The International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians has 1,200 members around the world. The Scandinavian Section includes France, Germany and the UK. There were more than sixty IFFR members at the meeting in Helsinki. Next year George, a retired lawyer and a Rotarian since 1983, will become the President of IFFR. George pointed out that there are over ninety different Rotary Fellowships and encouraged the club to see what common interests we might have with one of them.
