Rotary's role in protecting the environment was the theme of the meeting of Rotary South Queensferry on 14th April. The speaker was Keith Bruce from Kirkcudbright - a member of the District Environment Team - who stepped in at short notice. Keith's presentation included interesting news about how Rotary Kirkcudbright are involved in environmental issues. Members and friends have already planted one thousand trees in a reforestation project. In Langholm, residents have recently bought around 5,200 acres of grouse moor and are working on a scheme to restore it to peatland. With Rotary assistance, they are now raising funds to buy more land. Keith told members that as environment is now the seventh area of focus in Rotary, clubs are encouraged to start environmental projects or join neighbouring clubs in joint schemes. Rotary District Grants are available to support such projects.
