Club Meeting

On Thursday 27th January the Rotary Club of South Queensferry held a virtual Burns Supper which was joined by guests from Southport, Aberdeen and South Carolina. President Derek Clark began the evening with the Selkirk Grace. Alistair Rarity then addressed the Haggis which was then toasted by members and guests as they celebrated at home. There followed a splendid performance of A Man's a Man for A' That by Jim McCulloch, Sandy Mackenzie and Emma O'Harra. Their video rendering received resounding virtual applause.

Heather McInally, wife of prominent Rotarian and club member Gordon, then sang one of Burns's most beloved songs : Ae Fond Kiss. A surprise item followed when Gordon McInally sang the ballad Duncan Grey accompanied by Heather at the piano. President Derek commented that the song would be a big hit at the Rotary International Conference in 2023 when Gordon will be President of Rotary International.

Robbie Brechin proposed the Toast to the Lassies and Helen Tulloch gave a spirited reply. The final poem, To A Louse, came from Graham Leith, Jim McCulloch and Gordon McInally. Norman Watson sang The Star O Rabbie Burns while virtual viewers were invited to drink a toast after each verse.

President Derek then thanked all performers, members and guests. Vice President Sandy Mackenzie proposed the vote of thanks and Dougie MacLean led the company in two verses of Auld Lang Syne as Rotarians remembered members old and new.

In his closing remarks, President Derek thanked everyone for a great evening's entertainment which he hoped would be the last to be held under covid restrictions.
