On Thursday 28th October President Derek Clark welcomed members and guests of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry to a speaker's evening. The talk was given by Cassidy Parshall, a Rotary Global Scholar at Edinburgh University. Cassidy, twenty-two and from Colleyville, Dallas, studied Finance and Business at Baylor University as a pre-requirement for Medical School. She is a representative for the Global Surgery Student Alliance and assistant to the Co-President of Pre-Health Mentors Head Foundation in Medicine Teaching.

The masters course at Edinburgh University is in the Global Health Policy Unit where Cassidy studies with students from Europe, Asia, Africa and Indonesia. Her goal is to work with the World Health Organisation or the World Bank to find a solution to the disparity of  surgery care around the world. Millions of people have no access to surgery as they cannot afford it. This means people are dying due to lack of surgical care.

Cassidy is enjoying her stay in Edinburgh. Though in the midst of exams, she managed to take time out to attend the District Conference at Cumbernauld with four other Global Scholars. When introducing Cassidy, Rotarian Eric Proven explained how Rotary funds Global Scholars through the Rotary Foundation charity. In proposing the vote of thanks, Irene Brownless thanked Cassidy for a wonderful, passionate talk which showed real commitment to improving care around the world.
