Lifeline 2018 was completed successfully and over 570 Year 6 pupils from Shropshire and Powys received valuable safety lessons.
Feedback from schools and our VIP guests (DG Steve Martin, Town Mayor Sandy Best and the Police and Crime Commissioner’s representative) was excellent.
As usual there was a great response from Club members, partners and friends and thanks are due to all those who took part. The event not only provides our community’s youngsters with important life skills but also serves as a useful and high profile showcase for the Club.
We should acknowledge the crucial support we received from our agency partners (West Mercia and Dyfed Powys Police, Shropshire and Powys Fire Services and HM Coastguard), from St John Ambulance, NFU, John Ward’s cycle safety team, Derwen College and our caterer, Sue Davies.
Special thanks are due to our own teams who presented Internet Safety (led by Ian Haigh) and Bullying (led by Robin Sinclair), to David Davies who took over the Rail Safety scenario at the eleventh hour, to Seb Banks who helped on nearly everything, to Jayne who kept us all in order for the week, to Graham without whose organisation chaos would have reigned, to Hazel who produced a superb new pupil guide so that schools can follow up the lessons through the rest of the school year and to Oswestry School and Rhydycroesau Village Hall for the loans of chairs and tables.
Some Club members may not realise how much work is involved in putting on Lifeline from arranging the venue, equipment and catering, to liasing with schools and sorting out school transport, to organising the agency presenters, setting up (and updating) work rosters for the week and handling PR. Without the dedicated work of all the members of the Lifeline committee this important event would not happen and I am very fortunate to have such a great team – well done everyone!
Dates for next year are:
Set-up – Tuesday 10th September 2019
Event – Wednesday 11th September to Tuesday 17th September inclusive.
