President Ian tells us more about Sally:
Sally was a farmer's wife, primary school headteacher and mother of two young boys aged 7 and 9 when her world was turned upside down with a diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma which took her younger son Harry very quickly in 2014 after only a 9 month fight against this very rare cancer.
Left to pick up the pieces and rebuild a meaningful life for her family Sally, now no longer a headteacher, threw herself into founding and running the Harry Johnson Trust a charity which offers help and support to the children, teenagers and their families who receive care from the oncology team of Shropshire’s Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
"I am doing something positive, so something positive will come out of it." Sally said.
Over 4 years later and that is certainly true. The Trust has raised several hundreds of thousands of pounds to provide help and support for affected families. "We support children whenever and however possible, and so we grant ‘wishes’ as requested by hospital staff for individual children whenever we can." says Sally.
I am sure that Sally will tell you more about these projects herself in her talk so I'll leave you to hear more about 'Harry's Hampers', 'Harry's Hugs', 'Supershoes UK' and other projects funded by Harry's Trust from Sally herself.
You may also be pleased to hear that Sally, together with three of her friends, has fulfilled one of Harry's final wishes herself returning to Disneyland Paris in September 2018 where the group took part in the Disneyland Half-Marathon on what would have been Harry's 12th birthday.
As well as raising over £5,000 for Harry's Trust, the quest helped Sally to continue to adapt to her new 'normal' without Harry although he will be forever remembered.
