LifeLine Is 10 years old!
10 years ago, aiming to bring the established Nescliffe Camp Crucial Crew model to primary schools around Oswestry and neighbouring Powys, Oswestry Rotary Club's John Neave championed the Crucial Crew scheme to his Oswestry Rotary Club colleagues and LifeLine at Park Hall, Oswestry was born.
In 2009, after only its 2nd year, LifeLine received the Rotary Significant Award for addressing the needs of the community.
Now grown into a 6 day event, LifeLine, or Rhaff Achub, provides social awareness and safety training delivered by professionals such as the Police, British Transport Police, Fire Service, Coastguard and St John Ambulance together with Rotary volunteers and friends who present the following five scenarios - Bullying (in association with NSPCC), Road Safety Demonstration, Farm Danger (with the NFU), Cycling Safety and Internet Danger. The 450+ Year 6 pupils from 25 school who attend each year learn essential life skills as they prepare to move up to secondary school.
Visiting this year's event, Rotary 1180 District Governor Chris Sumner and Oswestry Town Mayor Councillor Peter Cherrington were impressed with its comprehensive coverage and with how hard the pupils had to work during their half day at LifeLine. "I wish there had been an event like this for me and my schoolfriends when I was a boy", said Peter as he presented medals to the pupils who had participated best during their session.
Continuing the presentations, Chris was delighted to present John Neave with a certificate on behalf of Oswestry Rotary Club with warm appreciation for his visionary guidance and leadership in the organisation of LifeLine since 2006 and to recognise his extraordinary service. Surprised by the presentation, John modestly declared that he was accepting the certificate on behalf of the Club as LifeLine is a team effort.
Oswestry Rotary Club is very grateful to receive the support of all the agencies, members and friends who freely give of their time to support this event and wish to thank them for the last 10 years - without their support there would be no LifeLine
