John Neave's talk to club today was entitled "LifeLine for Dummies" and gave the history of our fantastic project for those who didn't know (or had forgotten!) Crucial Crew was the generic name for this type of educational experience aimed at Year 6 children across the country and they started up in the early 90s. In 1994 Oswestry Rotarians were asked to assist at Nesscliffe's event held at the army camp and many agencies attended: police, trading standards, fire service, cycling proficiency, NFU etc.
After the Mary Hignett bequest the idea came about to run our own event and make it accessible to Welsh schools too - our event was a half-day and held in September and research was done at other reasonably local schemes. The entire club got involved in the planning and setting up and there is real collaboration between Welsh and English police and fire authorities for the benefit of the 400-500 children from both sides of the border who attend each year.
