John Davies' guests today were Justin and Sherie Soper, both members of Borderland Rotary Club and about to launch their new business whose aim is "to activate history for schools, providing living history". They have been giving talks and working in the Oswestry Town Museum, particularly during the Heritage Open Days. They believe that although adults may have a grasp of history, children do not so much and they want to plug the gap!
Former members of the Sealed Knot, the Sopers' main interest is military history, so Justin introduced the club to various weapons from different eras of warfare. First up was a 'Hand and a half sword' from c 1450 (Wars of the Roses era) so called because in order to wield it one needed one hand above the guard and half a hand above that for stability.
