Talented young chef Sophia Murjaneh from Penryn College wowed the judges at the Young Chef District final on February 15 with an incredible menu of roasted red peppers, grilled wild sea bass and a mango and raspberry souffle.
It was held at Dawlish Community College In fact, the top four all impressed thejudges with only four marks (out of 100) separating them.
Runners up were: Abigail Warren (Churston Ferrers Grammar School), Ailis Temple-Thurston (Great Torrington School) and Rosie Elliott (Dartmouth Academy).
Our grateful thanks to the adjudicating chefs Giles Maling, Hospitality Operations Manager and Rob Doige, Head Chef, Exeter University. Also thanks to the schools and colleges which hosted the Area and District Finals (Richard Lander School, Truro; St Petroc College, Barnstaple; and Dawlish Community College); and also the Rotary Clubs of Dawlish Water, Ilfracombe and Truro Boscawen for their enthusiastic and vital input to this competition
Regrettably, the Regional Final (Havant on March 28), was cancelled; pity.
