Wadebridge Rotary's meeting on Thursday 27 February saw the welcome visit of past club President Graham Renwick and guests Tracey Renwick and Yvonne Robinson. Graham and Tracey are in the Heritage Theatre production of The Hollow Crown at Pencarrow (13-14 March) and were down from Dorset for rehearsals.
The evening's main event was a talk by Steve Garvey, Air Operations Officer of Cornwall Air Ambulance, which means that he is a paramedic and the clinical lead for the base. The Air Ambulance has just taken delivery of its new helicopter, having reached its £2.5 million donations target. The new aircraft is faster than the old model, with a greater range and more interior space. This means that it can do more than one mission without having to return to base to refuel, so it can be more responsive to emergencies. The extra space means that the patient is in the centre and paramedics can attend from all sides in flight, improving clinical outcomes.
At the end, Steve presented a special award to Brian Budden, with the Cornwall Air Ambulance Chief Executive Paula Martin in attendance. Brian visited Rotary clubs across Cornwall as the 'New Heli Ambassador' to spread the message about the appeal, and Cornish clubs raised over £30,000.
