Wadebridge Rotary raised around £900 with a Tapas Night and wine tasting at the John Betjeman Centre on 23rd March.
40 paying guests were treated to a wine tasting, led by Nicola of Wadebridge Wines, of a cava, a white and a red, to accompany the excellent food cooked by Rotary members Paul Boote and Nick Pickles. The tasting amounts of wine were insufficient to last the whole meal, so fortunately additional bottles were available at the bar, along with a selection of Sharp’s finest beers.
Geordi and April Watson of The Carpet Trader, Countrywise, Wadebridge Wines, Chase Projects, Sue McCall, and Andy and Beth Lyle donated magnificent raffle prizes and a silent auction for beer saw numerous guests lugging home a hessian carrier bag of Sharp’s at the end of the evening.
Entertainer Callum Flew sang songs by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond and others, but declined a request for Freddie Mercury and Queen, and your correspondent didn’t have the heart to ask for the Sex Pistols’ Anarchy in the UK.
The evening finished with dancing to Callum, and we have the video evidence.
The money raised will go into the Rotary Trust Account to top up the reserves for future donations to local charities and projects, depleted by recent donations of £500 to each of Cornwall Blood Bikes, Hearing Loss Cornwall and Cornwall Music Services Trust.
As is usual with Rotary events, the list of helpers, both Rotary members and others, is too long to mention without risk of missing someone out. But thanks to them all, 40 people had a real good time.
