Rotary Supports Riding for the Disabled
Wadebridge Rotary Club donation towards the upkeep of a horse
Whereas Wexford, the Irish town, derives its name from Old Norse, Wexford up at Lakefield Equestrian Centre is the name of the Riding for the Disabled's (North Cornwall Branch) latest Horse; (I had hoped this first sentence might rhyme, but to no avail it seems and now I realise how difficult a job dear, departed John Betjeman had as Poet Laureate).
Anyway, Wexford (middle left) - the Horse that is - arrived a few weeks ago up at the RDA Centre nr Camelford Station with an indication from Wadebridge Rotary Club that a contribution may be made towards costs. In the event the Rotary Club, who have had previous links with the local RDA group, introduced by member Tim Jones, made a significant donation of £1000 at a recent informal cheque-handover ceremony at the Centre.
Jill Smith, Chairperson of the North Cornwall RDA group gave a heartfelt 'thank you' to the Rotary Club for their generosity in helping to bring Wexford to Camelford (it sounds like that Robert Browning poem from "How they brought the good news from Ghent to Aix"). Anyway, Lakefield and Rotary are building a good, close relationship and as Tim Jones said at the cheque handover: "the Club is very pleased to be able to be the intermediary in bringing some much needed support to the RDA in North Cornwall - of course, the donation can only be made because of the generosity of local people at events such as 'Wheels'.
