Club of Teignmouth’s Donation to Rowcroft
The Rotary
Club of Teignmouth has donated £1700 [and a further £200 last November] to
local hospice Rowcroft following its recent call for support.
Due to the
ongoing pandemic, Rowcroft is suffering from a loss of income while also facing
unprecedented pressures and challenges, particularly in its community service,
‘Hospice at Home’. “We recently
launched a fundraising appeal to protect our end-of-life care services for
those most vulnerable in our South Devon community,” says Rachael Bryett, Head
of Fundraising. “Our income has been badly affected — due to the closure of our
charity shops and the cancellation or postponement of all our fundraising
events. That’s why we are so grateful to Teignmouth Rotary for their support
and this generous donation. We have never needed the help of our local
community more than we do now.” Rowcroft
receives a small proportion of its funding from the NHS, and usually generates
more than 75% of its income from the local community. With the lockdown in
place, the majority of the charity’s regular income stream has been destroyed.
While the charity struggles to generate revenue, its staff and volunteers on
the frontline are continuing to provide their critical care services, for which
there is unprecedented demand. The
generous donation from Teignmouth Rotary club is being used to fund PPE for
Rowcroft’s staff which is currently costing the charity £1496 per month. “We are
always very pleased to support Rowcroft at any time but particularly in the
current circumstances” Colin Barber, Teignmouth Rotary President commented. “We
raise money throughout the year at a variety of events such as Picnic In The
Marquee, Children in Need and one off events such as The Muse 10 Year
Anniversary Concert held in The Riviera Cinema last year.” Now in its
93rd year, Teignmouth Rotary Club has a longstanding history of
providing support to the local community. The Committee is currently
responsible for a number of on-going community projects including local junior
football teams and individuals who require assistance to participate in special
functions both in this country and overseas.
In addition the club has an annual calendar of fundraising events to
support local and international charitable activities. The Club still meets weekly (online) and is currently
planning for a busy future without “lockdown”. New members are always welcome! Rachael
Bryett added, “We are so grateful to Colin and to Teignmouth Rotary for their
ongoing support. We have been so inspired and humbled by the many ways in which
our community is supporting us. I would like to say a massive thank you to
everyone who is helping us during these tough times.” If you

patients and their families across South Devon, then you can make a donation
