Christmas Sleigh at Morrisons

Over 4,000 raised for charity thanks to the generosity of the people of Plymouth

OVER £4,000 has been raised for charity thanks to the generosity of the people of Plymouth.

Roborough Rotary Club’s Christmas sleigh with Santa and his team of helpers from the Inner Wheel Rotary Club, have been on the road since December 13.

They have visited various areas in Plymouth, with people digging deep despite the time of year and current economic climate.

Caroline Easton, president of Roborough Rotary Club said: “We would like to thank everyone who donated monies and made our collections by the Rotary club of Roborough at Tesco, Asda and Morrisons supermarkets and mobiles at Manadon and Fort Austin successful.

“The proceeds will be divided amongst local charities allowing us to help others in need. We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

A total of £4,400 was raised, all of which will go towards local charities, particularly those providing help and support to children and young people.

In addition to their work with the local community, Roborough Rotary Club are also involved with the International community, particularly in Zambia. They are are currently collecting tools for "Tools With a Mission", a Rotary supported charity established 27 years ago supporting various projects in Northern Zambia including the Faith Orphanage at Kitwe.

The club also sponsor a charity called Literacy in a Box which sends boxes of basic educational materials to various locations in Zambia.
