Floyd Steadman OBE - a remarkable role model

Floyd Steadman visited Penzance Rotary to talk about his life so far including the hardship of his early childhood, family tragedy, racism, but above all, about determination and achievement.

We extended our congratulations to Floyd Steadman on being awarded an OBE in the 2023 New Year Honours List — a richly deserved recognition of his lifelong contributions to education, sport, and social progress.

Back in November 2021, members and friends of Penzance Rotary were privileged to welcome Floyd for an unforgettable lunchtime of storytelling and reflection. A former captain of Saracens Rugby Club and a distinguished headmaster, Floyd generously shared insights from his extraordinary journey — one marked by resilience, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to equality.

Now a local resident, Floyd had just released his compelling biography, A Week One Summer, at the time of the event. In his talk, he recounted powerful episodes from his life, including moments of personal hardship, loss, and the racism he encountered — all of which shaped the man he is today.

Yet, above all, Floyd’s message was one of hope and perseverance. His story is a testament to how determination and integrity can triumph over adversity, inspiring all who face daunting challenges in their own lives.

Thank you, Floyd, for your candour, courage, and generosity. Your words continue to resonate, and your example remains a beacon for many.
