The tenth staging of the Rotary Ramble took place on September 24th.
Penzance Rotary Club again organised the 7 ½ mile walk (with 4 ½ mile option) around Prussia Cove, Cudden Point and Perranuthnoe.
The event is open to walkers of all ages and particularly encourages youngsters to become involved in community fundraising. For this reason the entry fee is just £2.
The sponsored walk provides an opportunity for everyone to raise funds for whichever Community Group or Charity they choose. Rotary simply asks that participants pass 25% of the funds raised over to The Rotary Club of Penzance for onward donation to the named Rotary causes.
This year overall, the 124 walkers raised almost £8,500. The Rotary share was boosted to nearly £3,000 when some walkers opted to donate not just 25%, but all of their proceeds to the two Rotary causes, a reflection of how popular they both are.
As a result of this successful event, £1,500 is being donated by Rotary both to St. Julia’s Hospice and Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, illustrating that these two causes are dearly valued by the people of West Penwith.
