Rotary International and Shelterbox
become Project Partners
Rotary International has signed an agreement with the international disaster relief charity. In March 2012, Rotary International welcomed ShelterBox as our first Rotary project partner.
Many of you know about ShelterBox already but for those that don't . . .
Shelterbox aims to provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies to families as soon as possible after a disaster. The ShelterBox Operations Team monitor disasters constantly and are always in a position to respond immediately. Every disaster is different and, as such, so is every ShelterBox deployment. Sometimes we respond to disasters independently, other times it is on requests for assistance from other aid agencies or government authorities. The common thread is ensuring the response is as rapid as possible.
Rotary has been instrumental in the growth of Shelterbox and Rotarians are the cement that binds us together. Since Rotarian Tom Henderson founded Shelterbox it has grown from one clubs adopted project to the largest global Rotary club project in the 100-year history of the organisation.
In 2012, Shelterbox became Rotary International's first project partner.
This agreement enables both organisations to collaborate more closely to bring relief and temporary shelter to survivors of disasters worldwide.
The project partnership will build on the strengths of both Rotary and Shelterbox in responding to disasters all over the world.

Our membership is made up of men and women many of whom are already involved in local community work in one form or another but who, through Rotary, are able pool skills and resources to achieve even more.

The club meets each Friday lunchtime and up to twice each month members and guests enjoy a talk by a speaker. Talks cover a wide range of subjects with most being community focussed. Others may cover a speaker's special interests.

The Rotary Shop raises funds in order to provide financial assistance to local community groups, welfare groups and for the relief of hardship. Charity Commission Number 1194977.

The club fundraises in a variety of ways including through the Rotary Community Shop at the top of Market Jew Street. Funds are then donated or issued as Grants to a wide range of community groups & charities. Read on to apply for a grant . . .

Some of the most rewarding activities carried out by Rotarians are the organisation of Vocation based competitions like 'Young Chef', organising concerts for students and conducting 'Mock Job Interviews' for iminent school leavers.

Rotary Business Associates support the work of Penzance Rotary which in turn works to deliver events and initiatives that improve the lives of people in the local community.

Foundation taps into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating polio and promoting peace.

'Thank you' to the regulars and visitors at the Logan Rock Inn at St. Levan for continuing to help Rotary with the PolioPlus campaign. Rotarians around the world have been raising funds for the eradication of polio for over twenty five years.
