November is Rotary Foundation month, During this month
Rotary focuses on the work of the Rotary Foundation, its
charitable arm and encourages support for its global projects,
which include eradicating polio. Promoting peace, fighting
disease, providing clean water and education.
We at Kingsbridge Rotary are very much aware of these focuses
and we endeavour to serve our community to the best of our
ability. We successfully managed a sponsor walk for End Polio
along the embankment in Kingsbridge, We donated 4000
crocus corms to Kingsbridge in bloom whom we support their
partnership in making the town attractive to both residents and
visitors. This will result in a beautiful purple carpet of flowers in
Spring 2026 and we also allocated come corms for outside the
Scout Hut.
A very interesting afternoon was spent at the Thurlestone Hotel
listening to a local resident Mary Watts who shared with us her
emotional journey of 80 years living with Polio. Polio was an
epidemic in the late 1940’s and eventually was eradicated by
the early 60’s.
We are very much involved with the community of Kingsbridge
and its surrounding villages, and this month saw us launching a
Rotary National Competition for Young Writers in the town.
We are fortunate that Jane Finchman of Harbour Bookshop
agreed to promote this competition for us which is open to
entrants of 7-17 years old.
We are always looking for ways to promote our work in the
community and if you would like to help us by volunteering with
tasks during the year, just contact us through this website and
we will gratefully acknowledge your support and outline our
programme month by month.
Thank You Christina Thorpe
