Taste of Rotary International

Musanze's renovated nursery in Rwanda brings joy, while Malawi-born Rebecca's dance troupe from Hartland raises £400 to aid flood-affected Ndoka villagers, ensuring funds reach their destination through Rotary connections.

By Jill Eddie

A photo to make you happy – some of the pre -school children of Musanze in their newly furbished and equipped nursery (now with a roof!) which we helped fund. You may remember Regine, who visited us last year? She’s teaching there, but her husband is still working with the Red Cross in Jerusalem’s West Bank, so she’s worried… she sends her best wishes to you all.

HARTLAND to BIDEFORD to MALAWI and back again!

A couple of months ago, I had an email, via our club account, from a young woman in Hartland, who runs a dance troupe. She was born in a Ndoka, a village, in Malawi, which was submerged by floods in March. Many lost their homes and livelihoods.

Rebecca’s troupe raised £400.00 to help them, and wondered if I knew of a Rotary club in Zomba district. I didn’t, of course, but with the Club Locator app it was easy to find one! She recognized a name and we both wrote to the District Governor and President of the club. I have to confess that we’re dealing in African time, but things are moving, and the money will go to the right place in Malawi.
