About us

THE ROTARY CLUB OF HUNTINGDON CROMWELL

Huntingdon is one of the four principal towns in the District of Huntingdonshire. The others being St Ives the home of the Chapel on the Bridge, St Neot's the largest town in the County of Cambridgeshire and Ramsey which was built up around the gate of Ramsey Abbey.

The Club adopted its name from Oliver Cromwell who was born into a family which was for a time one of the wealthiest and most influential in the area.   Educated at Huntingdon Grammar School, now the Cromwell Museum, and at Cambridge University, he became a minor East Anglia landowner who made a living by farming and collecting rents. It was the civil wars of the 1640s which lifted him from obscurity to power.

The Rotary Club of Huntingdon Cromwell meets at 7.15pm on Mondays (except Bank Holidays) - at The George Hotel, George Street, Huntingdon, Cambs PE28 3AB.

Visitors are welcome and should contact the Club Secretary, Lawrie Cooke, on 01487 830114 by 9am on the Friday before.

The Club actively donates to local, national and international causes. For a recent list go to DONATIONS_AND_AWARDS_UP_TO_2023.xlsx .

This money has, in the main, been raised through the efforts of Club members who have embraced the Rotary ethos of 'Service Before Self'.

We welcome new members and if that could be you please visit the "Contact" section of the website and get in touch.

Explore our website for a flavour of what we do. These events not only generate fun and friendship but raise significant funds that have or will be donated to primarily local charities.

Our President

Our President this year is Steve Legg who received his chain of office at a ceremony on 7th July. Steve is honoured to take up the role and continue the good work of outgoing president Dee Wormald. With support from a great team there is an opportunity to develop new projects, create new ideas and to continue the fantastic work already carried out in our local community and further afield. Promoting Rotary locally will be key to welcoming new members into a worldwide community of volunteers.
