About us

Chelmsford Mildmay Rotary Club meets for lunch every Tuesday at The Waltham Barns at Little Channels, Pratts Farm Lane West, Little Waltham, CM3 3PR, for a programme of talks, presentations and discussions.

You can find out more about what we do by looking at our programme, our fundraising to support various local, national and international causes and our donations in recent years. Mildmay Matters our online newsletter, will also give you a good idea of our activities.

⭐️ We welcome new members⭐️ If you are interested, please contact John Tilsley, club secretary: secretary@mildmayrotary.org.uk

If you do not have time to take up membership, you might like to become a Friend of Rotary. You can still enjoy some social events, help with charity projects like the Baddow Races and Santa Sleigh or just get a taste of what Rotary is all about.  We also welcome Corporate Members.

Baddow Races 10 mile Road Race and 2 mile Fun Run

Santa Sleigh

2021 saw us embark on an exciting new project, to build a Santa Sleigh to help with our fundraising activities to benefit local charities. Since then, we have toured the Sleigh each December.  In 2024 we toured North Springfield, Beaulieu and Channels, Boreham, Ford End, Little Waltham, Broads Green, Great Waltham and Howe Street with all-day visits to Sainsbury's Superstore, White Hart Lane, and Morrisons Superstore, Regiment Business Park.

Purple4Polio campaign to End Polio Now

Polio (poliomyelitis) is caused by a virus that mainly affects nerves in the spinal cord or brain stem. In its most severe form, polio can lead to paralysis.

Purple4Polio activities suggested by Rotary in Great Britain and Northern Ireland are to raise funds and awareness for End Polio Now, Rotary’s global campaign to eradicate polio across the world.

Chelmsford Mildmay Rotary, in partnership with other clubs, has planted purple crocuses at RHS Hyde Hall and Viaduct Meadows, Chelmsford Central Park.

Our club engages in awareness raising and fundraising activities each year including on (or near) World Polio Day on 24 October each year.

Caring for our environment

One of our club’s prime motivations is to help the environment around us and we are fortunate to have as one of our Friends of Mildmay the Chelmsford Waste and Recycling department – Love your Chelmsford’ (LYC).

Our relationship with LYC over the last few years gives our club members the opportunity to initiate ad-hoc litter picking expeditions around and about the Chelmsford area in locations pinpointed by LYC as needing urgent attention. We also join the LYC annual Spring Clean-up in the City and the Keep Britain Tidy promotions for the whole country to act against littering in their local neighbourhood.

As a club we always welcome volunteers willing to join a litter pick which provides fresh air, banter and a coffee and chat at its completion.

Internet Classroom project for youth development in South Africa 2021/22

In partnership with our 'twin' club, the Rotary Club of Klerksdorp, the project was for a shipping container to be converted into a classroom in one of the townships, fitted with computers, printers, desks and chairs and installed with wi-fi and electricity.   This project was so successful that our club fully funded a second classroom. To date there are now four such facilities across townships close to Klerksdorp. Whilst there are no active plans to extend this project further, it is kept under review.
