Youth Activities in Rotary North East 2023-24

The 2024 Youth Competitions are now closed to new entries and the District Winners have now been posted on the District website.

The 2024 National Finals of Young Musician, Young Chef and Youth Speaks will be held in April 2024, and the "virtual" competition finals will be judged at National Level in May 2024.

This year's  RYLA courses will take place at our purpose-built site alongside Hannahs Meadow and the Hury reservoir in August 2024, with one course starting on 12th August and the second on 19th August 2024. . RYLA North East in 2023 was a truly invigorating event, providing many opportunities to develop the participants' leadership and team-working skills. 28 young people took part in 2023 and this year we can take even more young people. We have cherry-picked highlights from our previous programmes and added loads of new features to offer the best RYLA yet. The 2024 courses are open for booking now and up to 48 places will be available if there is sufficient Club sponsorship, Bookings will close on 30th April.

We hope to run the Technology Tournament later in 2024, if resources permit, after taking time out because of COVID restrictions. We are always looking for volunteers to help us to run this very popoular event.

Bring It On North East, which originated as an idea from Sunderland Rotary, was run as a virtual event in 2020 and 2021, as the COVID restrictions made it impossible to bring together 1500 young people into an indoor event safely. The 2022 event returned to its live venue in the Beacon of Light on Wed 12th and Thu 13th Oct 2022 and was very successful, but unfortunately future events cannot take place because of resourcing issues.

Speakers available:

I am available to speak face-to-face (or on Zoom) to Clubs or Club Groups about Youth Competitions and RYLA.

Jean and Keith Best are happy to do Zoom presentations on the Peace Project they have developed. This has been adopted at Barnard Castle through Rotary Barnard Castle and at North Durham Academy Stanley supported by Derwentside Club. Please let me know if you would like Jean and Keith to do a presentation at your club meeting.
