SUPPORTING WATER AID'S WALK FOR WATER

This month our club is supporting our Past President Alan Pomfret who is walking 155km in the Walk for Water challenge.

Water Aid is a not- for- profit organisation determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere. The charity was established in 1981 because  no other charity existed which  had these objectives.

March is WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) month in Rotary and this coincides with Water Aid's latest challenge. This March Water Aid is standing with women and girls globally and inviting people to take on the WALK FOR WATER CHALLENGE.

Around the world, women and girls are being held back by having to walk 5km or more for water everyday.. This is taking away their hopes for the future as they miss out on paid work or school.

Our Past President Alan Pomfret has decided to take up this challenge and will show solidarity with those women and girls by walking the same distance. This equates to 155km for the month, the equivalent of 5km per day.

Our club will be sponsoring Alan on his walk. He has also set up an easy fundraising page for anyone who might like to donate.. The link can be found here:  https://walkforwater.wateraid.org/fundraising/wateraid-walk-for-water2024

Further details on walk for water can be found here: - https://walkforwater.wateraid.org

Update: Alan completed the challenge and walked more than 155km (5km per day) during the month. At the club business meeting on 26 March Alan was presented with a Water Aid T-shirt in recognition of his achievement.

A fitting and timely end to March-WASH area of focus!
