Young Musician 2024

On Thursday, the 22d February, Kirkcudbright Academy, supported by Kirkcudbright Rotary, staged their annual Young Musician competition.

On Thursday, the 22d February, Kirkcudbright Rotary supported Kirkcudbright Academy in staging their annual Young Musician competition. Organised and led by Kirkcudbright Academy music teachers Hannah Gill and Emma Irving, the competition attracted 27 young people from Years S1 through to S6.

As in previous years, the competition was divided into three categories, the Junior Young Musician, the Senior Singer and the Senior Instrumentalist. A mixture of songs, styles and instruments made for an evening of real enjoyment for a substantial audience of parents and Rotarians.  At the end of the evening, each young musician was presented with a Rotary certificate. The winning students  received trophies and cash prizes.

As in previous years, the judges for the evening were music teachers Jamie Brand and Georgina Pryde-Firmin, both from Annan Academy. They once again expressed their delight at the quality of the musical performances that they had seen and, in speaking to the audience, they expressed their amazement at just how much had been achieved by Hannah and Emma once again.
