Ride 2 Rome

All Roads Lead to Rome

Doddie Aid might have finished, but for Mike Brown the challenge has just begun.

Following on from the success of the Doddie Cup 555 ride in 2023, Mike is joining Rob Wainwright & teams of cyclist set on the biggest challenge yet for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

The challenge for the teams is ‘simple’:

Get to Piazza Navona in Rome by 5pm on Friday 8th March for a celebratory limoncello.

But there is one rule - participants can’t get there by air!

Mike sets off on the 1st March at 5am from South Queensferry. He is part of the 801massif team.

About 801Massif
For DoddieAid 2024 teams of cyclists from all over the UK will propel themselves across Europe through the bitter March weather to reach Rome ahead of the Scotland v Italy Six Nations match on the 9th March. All this to raise funds for the fight against MND.

The 801 Massif draws together 5 Veteran Doddie Aid Riders from Scotland, supported by a London-based support crew. Leaving from under the Forth Bridge on Friday 1st March, they aim to ride in to the Piazza Navona with the other teams and the match ball on the 8th March.

About Mike Brown
Mike, is from Montvelo CC, Montrose. Mike works as a dentist and when not working or cycling enjoys working with his horses.

Despite usurping John ‘McSlow’ Mucklow as baby of the 801Massif group Mike will very much still be relying on him to compensate for a very creaking body, but does promise to at least make a decent wind break. Although Mike has taken part in some borderline daft challenges on the bike, he’s never done anything like this before but is looking forward to getting his own teeth into it.

“I’m not sure the enormity of the challenge has quite sunk in yet but as tough as it undoubtedly will be the suffering will be temporary and every pound we raise will hopefully get us slightly closer to cure for MND”
