Rotary Presentations and Prizes

The new year 2024 got off to a good start in the Anglers, as the winners of the recent Rotary Young Writers Competition joined members to receive their prizes and certificates at the regular Rotary meeting. Gift tokens were presented to Kenzie Avey from Cummertrees School who also received the Rotary Young Writer Shield for winning the Annan heat. Charles Beattie from Annan was runner-up with Evie Beamish, 3rd and Grace Goldie 4th, both also from Cummertrees. We also welcomed representatives from Kate's Kitchen, Annan Day Centre, Food Train and Gretna Day Centre. They all chatted about the work of their organisation as Rotary members handed each a cheque made possible by the recent Christmas collections. The groups received a share of the £1371, raised on the High Street, at Tesco and at Caledonia Park. It's worth noting that the work of Rotary goes beyond our local community; across the globe,

Rotary International's sustainable projects include fighting literacy, poverty and disease. Rotary Annan and District would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated so generously and also to the several local shops who put collecting cans on their counters. We are looking for new members to join us so that we can continue to support mainly local.

With rising energy costs and food bills, there are many living locally who will struggle to keep warm in the coming months and local groups are trying to reach out to them and offer some warmth and support.

Annan & District Rotary have purchased a quantity of Sherpa Blankets to be donated towards a local initiative in Annan providing warm blankets to local residents struggling to afford heating over the coming winter months.
