Tree Planting at Wootton

Tue, Nov 28th 2023 at 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

We shall be involved in improving the environment in our local community. Your manpower is needed to supporting the planting of trees in Wootton.

Are you available to assist with a mornings tree planting on Thursday 28.
Wootton Parish Council has secured a large grant from the Urban Tree Challenge Fund. This grant has been used to purchase 42 trees. These trees are about 3 metres high and have a large root ball. The task involves digging a hole large enough to take the root ball, staking them and securing a wire cage to prevent damage by deer etc.
The planting task will be be undertaken by local volunteers and hopefully the local school children. The organiser has asked if Rotary could assist with the planting. I said I would ask my Club Members if any of them would be able to assist. Starting time 9.30. Finish time when all planted. I have not had the exact location confirmed. The task will be lead by a professional arboriculturists.
This is a good opportunity to raise Rotary’s profile and would count towards our tree planting count.
Please let me know if you have any questions and if you can help for some or all of the morning
Thank you
Kind regards

=====

Thank you so much for kindly offering your support with this year’s tree planting event in Wootton!  We’ve got an even bigger project this year and will be planting 42 trees in the community, thanks to a grant from UTCF and the expert support of Russell Horsey from Woodland Dwelling.

Details for the day are:

  • Please arrive from 9.15 am in the car park at the Community Centre in Wootton, NN4 6ED.  Russell will give the first planting demo at 9.30am.
  • If you have a spade and gloves, please bring them.  If not, don’t worry as we’ll have some equipment on site.
  • There is a cafĂ© in Wootton Community centre where you can get hot food and drinks for lunch.  There is also a toilet.
  • The long term weather forecast keeps changing a little but if we’re unlucky and get rain we’ll still go ahead so please dress appropriately!

You are welcome to stay for as long as you like and we’ll keep going until all 42 trees are in the ground!  We’ll also be joined throughout the day by some of the school children from Preston Hedges and Caroline Chisholm School.

If you have any queries about the day, please drop me a note or you can call me on 07733 303808.

Thanks again for supporting this event and I look forward to seeing you all next week!
