On Thursday the 31st August the club welcomed Narek Bido the first District Governor of the combined and enlarged new District 1320. Narek is currently the CEO of Recovery Scotland an organisation that provides support to people whose lives are affected with substance abuse. Narek has been a member of Falkirk Rotary Club since 2012 where he has undertaken several key roles.

Narek outlined the challenges facing him with the unification of the two former Districts as both Districts had their own procedures and cultures. He confessed it will take time to achieve a standardised set of operational processes and an aligned cultural outlook.

He complimented our club on all we have achieved since our charter was granted back in 1977 and he hoped we might encourage other clubs to adopt a more proactive approach. Narek concluded by presenting President Neil with a Create Hope in the Word banner and he also presented Dr. Mark Gilmour with his Community Award.

The club also had the pleasure of presenting a Rotary Community Award to Dr. Mark Gilmour a retired G.P. In Neil’s citation address he covered the wide range of support services Mark has devoted his time and energy to including the support of asylum seekers and people serving prison sentences. Mark is also passionate about nature and horticulture and has delivered several practical and theoretical vegetable growing workshops to the pupils of St Margaret’s Primary School and Queensferry Primary School. In his acceptance speech Mark complimented the club on the skills of its members in constructing the raised vegetable beds at St Margaret’s Primary School that the pupils love and also the planters in Dalmeny Village Green. District Governor Narek Bido then presented Mark with his well deserved award.
