The team of nine student optometrists spent 10 days in and around the rural communities in Malawi, setting up outreach eye care clinics, performing hundreds of sight tests and providing glasses and referrals to the hospital for those in need.

Cardiff OpSoc Malawi Team 2022 said: ‘We funded 40 cataract surgeries, which we had the opportunity to observe. We were able to meet the ophthalmology registrars and taught them refraction, along with helping out on ward rounds and at paediatric eye clinics.

‘We were fortunate enough to visit and spend time at an orphanage where we undertook 200 sight tests on the children.
