Lunch time meeting - PC Ross Fisher Community Schools Campus Officer

On Thursday 21st Feb 2019 in the absence of President Anne Sampson, Senior Vice President Ewen Macdonald welcomed 18 Cub Rotarians and Guest speaker Community PC Ross Fisher to this lunch time meeting held in the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes. 

On reception were Geoff Sampson and Ewen Macdonald who said grace.

Geoff Sampson mentioned that Brian Johnson Foundation Chair in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Dunfermline Carnegie was organising and promoting the Annual Swimarathon this coming Sunday at the Carnegie leisure Centre in Dunfermline and that it would be good if we could support his efforts.

Jim Boyd mentioned the Top of the Form High School Quiz which had been so successful over many years advising that there had been a poor response to date.

Wilna Roger Community chair advised that the annual Young Artist competition was held at Auchmuty High School yesterday (Wednesday 20th February). A very high standard of entries from the 3 local High Schools were judged by Dorothy Wyllie and Pat Beveridge. The results were. Overall winner and young artist of the year - Mia Syme Auchmuty HS. Full results Advanced Higher Expressive winner - Mia Syme Auchmuty, runner up Charlotte Mackenzie Auchmuty HS. Advanced Higher Design -winner Ian Manners Auchmuty; Runner up - Phoebe Green – Auchmuty; Higher Expressive - winner Emma Thomson Glenrothes HS. Runner up Jakob Wdowinski - Glenwood HS, Higher Design winner Willow Duncan - Glenwood HS, Runner up Alicia Stevenson Glenrothes HS, Well done to everyone involved and a great show of talent

Our guest speaker this week was Community PC Ross Fisher who spoke about his Policing career since growing up in Woodside, joining the Police Cadets at the age of 16 and becoming Community Officer and then going in to the 3 High Schools as Schools Campus Officer. Ross during his spare time runs one of the Local Taekwondo Clubs in Glenrothes. The Club made a very generous contribution towards the team kit for the ITS (Independent Taekwondo- Schools) Scotland Team. Ross thanked the club and said the donation has gone a long way and is very much appreciated by the team members, the coaches and himself.

The Rotary Vote of thanks was given by Wilna Roger.

This coming week Thursday 28th February 2019 will be an evening meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, meeting at 6.15pm for a prompt start at 6.30pm Our speaker this week will be Joe Fitzpatrick who is a Director and Trustee of the Falkland Stewardship Trust which is responsible for many aspects of the Falkland Estate. He is the Trust Board's Archaeology champion and has been actively involved in study and excavation for several years. Since his retirement he devotes much of his time to study, history, archaeology and community involvement. 

The Annual Primary School quiz took place on Thursday 21st February at Auchmuty High School organised by Vocational chair Murray Grubb and supported on the night by Rotarian's May Ford, Tracy Thompson, Archie Lawrie, Will Wishart, Iain Haywood and Geoff Sampson took place at Auchmuty High School tonight in front of a packed audience with Parents, friends and teachers supporting what turned out to be one of the best Primary School Quizzes ever held. What a great competition with St Paul's Primary (Brooke Mcalonie, Jorja Newlands, Andrew Dryburgh and Charlie Pullar) leading the way from the start with 100 scored from a possible 120 and Markinch and Pitcoudie tied 2nd with scores of 94. Many thanks once again from the support of Alan Pithie and his staff at Auchmuty High School for providing excellent facilities, water and pencils for the contestants. Thanks to President Anne for preparing certificates of participation and Q&A sheets and thanks to Trojan press in Leslie for speedy printing.

Well done to Brian Johnson Foundation Chair along with The Rotary Club of Dunfermline Carnegie for promoting and supporting the Annual Swimarathon at the Carnegie leisure Centre in Dunfermline, 22 teams with approx 60 participants from differing organisations raising funds for various causes. Thanks to Brian's wife Kay and President Anne and Geoff Sampson for giving some support on the day.
