Lunch Time meeting - Council Reports

On Thursday 11th October 2018 President Anne Sampson welcomed 13 Club Rotarians and Fiona Smith to this lunch time meeting which was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes. 

On reception, this week were Geoff Sampson who said grace and Iain Oates.

President Anne Sampson presented a cheque for £200 to Fiona Smith of Crossroads Fife Central a registered charity operating across Central and North East Fife, providing high-quality person-centred support to Carers who are caring for someone of any age with any disability or illness. Support is provided in the form of Short Breaks. To deliver this service they employ experienced, skilled and trained staff who either look after the cared for person (service user) in their own home or take them out, according to their individual assessed need, and of course, the need of the carer.

President Anne confirmed that we had sent off a cheque for £500 to Shelter box to help support the Indonesian Tsunami disaster.  She also suggested we established stronger links with the foodbank and for members to bring food on a weekly basis. Anne is to approach the foodbank to see what they are urgently requiring. She also mentioned that we had approached the Taekwon-DoMartial Arts local club run by Ross Fisher who has been selected as the Head Coach for the ITS Scottish National Team in preparation for the International Championships in Kidderminster, England in June re sponsorship which the club has agreed to. Charitable status was mentioned and again to further look into. Our SGM will be held on 8th November 2018 where our President, SVP, JVP, Secretary and Treasurer for the following presidential year 2019-2020 will be announced, also approval of annual accounts. President Anne and Treasurer Geoff will represent the club at the District conference on the 20th October 2018 In Dundee. Every effort should be made to support The Rotary club of Buckhaven and Methil in their pitch for funding to be held in the Buckhaven community Centre in the middle of November. The Past Presidents dinner will take place at the Balgeddie Hotel on the 26th October 2018.

IPP Lindsay Roy confirmed that the Intergenerational project with Auchmuty High School was moving forward at a pace having already had meetings with some of the students.

Community Chair Wilna Roger mentioned the Mock Interviews, The Young Chef Competition which will go ahead at Auchmuty High School at the end of November and the new Young Creative Technologist competition. Wilna also mentioned that the Interactors from Glenrothes High School project of “Give a kid a coat” was being promoted and Local factory Ardmel had promised support by giving 20 new coats. Coats to be in by 31st October 2018l

Vocational Chair Murray Grubb mentioned that to date 7 Primary Schools had confirmed they will be attending the Primary School Quiz competition.

Geoff Sampson mentioned that we had participated in two successful nights in this year’s Gavel competition but sadly our third game against Perth St John’s has been cancelled due to their club being unable to get a team together.

This coming week’s meeting on Thursday 18th October 2018 will be a lunch time meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet 12.45pm for starting at 12.55pm on reception, will be Wil Wishart, Bill Wooton and Peter May. Our speaker this week will be Duncan Macdonald from the Rotary Club of Inverness and Culloden who will be talking about a Malawi project which his club are involved with and that we are looking to support. Brian Johnson will be giving the Rotary Vote of thanks.
