Leighton Linsdale's Disability Multi Sports Day

The partnership between MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET) and the Rotary Club of Leighton Linsdale has taken on another dimension this year's Summer Holiday, with a new programme that consists of one day multi-sports sessions spread over three weeks

The Rotary Club is 12 months into a programme called "Yes We Can".  This programme is designed to bring affordable and sustainable sporting and other opportubities into Leighton Linsdale and the surrounding area.  MK Dons SET have been one of the founding partners in the project and been instrumental in the formation of the MK Buzzards, the programme's football team.  The new one day sessions complement this program and have broughts a more comprehensive eductional element to the programmes.

The first session took place on Friday 10th August at the scout hut in Leighton Buzzard.  The attendance for the first session was very pleasing with over ten children joining in with their parents, grandparents and siblings in a variety of sports and other acitivites.

Firstly the group was coached in footbal skills, testing their luck against a keeper and some dribbling.  The next group became engaged in some competitive tennis matches in the hall.  It was lucky that this group did have access to this fantastic hall as the weather was not the best.  This, however, did not dampen spirits!

After lunch the group was treated to some quick cricket - practicing throwing, catching, bowling and batting.  Finally, at the end of the day the familes took part in a craft session where they had to design a life size kit for the MK Dons.  Everyone got fully involved with some very nice and colourful kits being produced.

The whole day proved to be a great success and the feedback we have received from everyone has been exceptional.  We look forward to running these days during the rest of the summer and our SET would like to thank the Rotary Club of Leighton Buzzard for allowing us the opportunity to work with such a deserving group of participants.

Rotarian Richard Johnson, OBE said "Our Rotary Club have been delighted with our partnership with SET and this has strengthtend further this summer with the delivery of the Multi sports Days."

"Our 'Yes We Can' initiative received significant feedback that there was little or no activities for young disabled people in the school holidays so we were pleased to be able to respond and delighted that SET were able to delivery such a brillant program."
