Speaker: Paul Chisholm - “Youth Beatz”

Club members please log in for more information.

Originally from Glasgow and working freelance in the music industry and youth work sector, Paul Chisholm moved to Dumfries in January 2000 to start a new job at the refurbished Oasis Youth Centre as Senior Youth/Music Development Worker.
This role involved providing learning opportunities for young musicians utilising resources like rehearsal/recording facilities and live performance area within a professional youth work setting that met the needs of young people.
Consultations and a wide ranging needs assessment showed young people were keen to see more live music events and in particular large scale concerts, this led to the introduction of the first Youth Beatz event in 2009. Thanks to funding from Nithsdale Area Committee, this was very quickly pulled together and we were extremely surprised by the response from the public with numbers greatly exceeding our expectations.
The event has grown in stature and scale every year since, with the 2018 festival becoming one of the Scottish Government’s signature events as part of Year of Young People.
