Evening meeting - Awards Evening

Great evening with all the recipients of events during the year being recognised


On Thursday 31st May 2018 President Lindsay Roy welcomed 15 Club Rotarians, special guest Jenny Gilruth MSP and 101 guests to this special evening meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes.

On reception were Peter May, Will Wishart, Paul Harris, with Anne Sampson saying grace.

This special meeting was for our Annual Awards evening which once again showcased and described the events which took place during the year as President Lindsay Roy’s Presidential year draws to a close. The event organised and coordinated by Senior Vice President Anne Sampson and Community Chair / schools Liaison Wilna Roger saw students from the Primary and High Schools awarded and presented with certificates, trophies and wallet of notes. With 117 people attending the evening Young Musician Instrumentalist Sam Duzinkewycz and vocalist Holly Clunie entertained the guests as did Collydean Primary school pupils with their Scots recitals. Jenny Gilruth MSP and friend of Rotary presented the awards, PP John Goodall of Glenrothes Rugby Club speaking about the difference the financial support had made to the Under 14’s of Glenrothes Rugby Club as they were the main beneficiary of the recently held Sportsman's dinner. Auchmuty Learning Centre – Happy Monday Club’s James Galloway also spoke of the support and great help that the Rotary Club had made to them over the past year with their financial assistance.

Collydean Primary school pupils were presented with the Ian Chalmers Quaich being winners of the Inaugural Scots Poetry competition in memory of our Founder member. The 4 pupils also received a special individual trophy to commemorate Ian as this is the first year of the competition. Special mention also to Derek Thomson of the Rotary Club of Burntisland and Kinghorn for speaking about the Fife Association of Rotary Clubs and the role they have been playing locally, IPP Brian Johnson for his talk on his visit to India for the end Polio immunisation day and Tracy Thomson for organising and running the raffle. To all others including the Gilvenbank Staff for providing excellent service and serving an excellent meal and High School rectors and staff, parents and Rotarians along with Markinch Primary School Pupils who also who won the Primary school Quiz competition who attended thanks for making this a special event in the clubs Calendar

 

The next meeting will revert to our normal lunch time meeting on the 7th June 2018 at the Gilvenbank Hotel, which will take the form of a pre-club assembly business meeting. Please meet 12.45pm for starting at 12.55 pm. On reception will be Peter May, Wilna Roger who should say grace
