Thu, May 3rd 2018 at 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

On Thursday 3rd May President Lindsay Roy welcomed 19 Rotarians plus 2 guests to the lunchtime meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel.

On reception were Peter May and Wilna Roger who said grace.

6 apologies for absence were received.

Wilna Roger reminded members about the forthcoming concert on Saturday 12th May when Cantamus will perform songs from the shows and the American Songbook at St Columba’s church starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 including refreshments and can also be purchased at the door on the night. Wilna also urged members to support this event by bringing along family and friends.

Our speakers today were Colin McLeod and Karen Ross from Coors Tek, in Glenrothes. This thriving global firm has its base in Colorado with 50 manufacturing sites in many countries but was originally a family business founded in the 1870’s by Adolf Coors. Now Coors Tek is a world leader in making ceramic products for many kinds of engineering. These include semiconductors, medical implants, items for the automotive industry such as pressure sensors, defence, armour, oil and gas.

Coors Tek have been in Glenrothes for 37 years and now provide work for 80 employees. It is based on 4 core values: Dignity, integrity, team work and customer focus. These undoubtedly contribute to the continued expansion of the firm in terms of both staff and products. Modern apprenticeships will soon be on offer to young people seeking to learn about this extremely high-end technology, much of which is based on the use of lasers.

After a question and answer session the VOT was given by Rotarian. Archie Lawrie.

The next meeting will again be a lunch time meeting to be held on the 10th May 2018 at the Gilvenbank Hotel where members will be given a talk by Rotarian Brian Johnson who will give a presentation about his recent trip to India where he participated in the End Polio Now vaccination programme.

Please meet 12.45pm for starting at 12.55 pm. On reception will be Peter May, Hamish Rothnie and May Ford.
