Visit to Newcastle Trinity House

Tue, Mar 28th 2017 at 10:50 am - 11:50 am

Our President has arranged a club visit to Trinity House on Tuesday 28 March 2017 with the option of lunch afterwards. If anyone is interested in joining the party please let Club Secretary Linda know as soon as possible.

The guided tour of Trinity House will commence at 11.00 a.m and will last for approximately 90 minutes finishing at 12.30pm. The cost is £5 per person.  Trinity House is situated at Broad Chare, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 3DQ  The  telephone number should you need it is 0191-2328448

We should all meet at Trinity House approximately 10 minutes before the tour is due to start (say 10.45am  – 10.50am)

The Reception at Trinity House are aware we shall be visiting and a guide will be waiting for us – (if I'm not about just let them know you are with the Newcastle Rotary Club Group).

There are 12 stone steps up to the building with a handrail (this is the only access) so please take your time when climbing these steps.

There are  plenty of seats around the building so if during the tour you need to ‘take a breather’ please do so I may even join you.

Trinity House complex has developed and expanded over more than five hundred years on the Broad Chare site, presenting a wonderful chronological architectural attraction to visitors. To enter and walk through the building is to further discover a unique and fascinating private, collection of paintings, ship models, books, furniture, nautical instruments and artefacts from around the world and down through the centuries.

Parking is heavily restricted around Trinity House but there are two car parks close by. These are the Quayside multi storey car parks (postcode NE1 2AQ) behind the Law Courts and the basement car park underneath the Travelodge Hotel (postcode NE1 2NH) on Forster Street. Both car parks are around 150 metres from the entrance to Trinity House.

Train and Metro – Newcastle Metro is a 20 minute walk, or a short taxi drive. Closest Metro Stations are Central Station or Monument. If you get a taxi ask for the Live Theatre or give the Law Courts as a point of reference.

Bus – there is a Quayside bus service “Quay Link”which runs regularly. The bus may be boarded outside the Theatre Royal (next to the Monument Metro Station) or at the Haymarket bus station. The stop required is “the Law Courts”.

After the tour we thought we would find somewhere nice for lunch say pizza and a glass of wine there are certainly plenty of places in this area.  So if you would like to join us that would be lovely too. I am hoping it will be an really enjoyable and interesting morning.
