Alex Staniforth -  THE ADVERSITY ADVENTURER
Alex Staniforth is a 21-year old endurance adventurer, motivational speaker and author from Cheshire. In 2015 his second attempt to climb Mount Everest ended in disaster after the Nepal earthquake triggered avalanches, tragically killing three of his teammates at base camp, whilst he was below Camp 1 in the Khumbu Icefall. In Spring 2014 his first attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest, aged 18, was cut short by another major avalanche. His debut book ‘’Icefall’’ tells the full story of these devastating events and his journey through adversity to Everest, endorsed by Bear Grylls.
Alex suffered Epilepsy and more in his childhood that has driven him to succeed and inspire others to build resilience, and overcome their own ‘Everest in life’. He has stammered since a toddler and never known what normal speech feels like – the simple privilege of being able to greet people, say his own name, socialise properly, make friends etc., but despite that, he is a motivational speaker!  Last year he delivered 44 talks to over 2,500 people.
2016, was a busy year for Alex: he released his first book Icefall (now award-winning), organised Walk4Nepal, raising £25k for charity, took on new ambassador roles for YHA and PHASE Worldwide, a Cho Oyu expedition, a 24-hour time trial and rediscovered his love for running.
He is proud to be the Young Ambassador for the award-winning Westgrove Group an integrated facilities and security management company based in Warrington. Through his challenges he has fundraised over £55,000 for various causes, including the victims of the Nepal earthquake, and is an ambassador for YHA England & Wales, also PHASE Worldwide, a charity working in remote areas of Nepal.
2017 will bring Alex’s biggest challenge yet, supporting YoungMinds, to help other young people achieve their own Everest in life – the young, wise, keen adventurers, and those who haven’t tried.
