Speaker: District Governor Frank West

Mon, Aug 1st 2016 at 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

There are nearly 100 Rotary clubs in District 1145 which takes in parts of six London Boroughs and the counties of Surrey, East and West Sussex and parts of Hampshire.
In his one year term the District Governor is expected to visit all these clubs and on Monday 1st August it was our turn to welcome this year's District Governor, Frank West.
Frank told us something of his professional career, his rugby playing days and his connections with Twickenham through his membership of Harlequins. He paid tribute to Peter O'Keefe as the first District Governor of the restructured D1145 and outlined his own plans for the second year. He spoke of the need for new members, the opportunities for different meeting formats and satellite groups created by recent changes at the Council on Legislation. This year is the centenary of Rotary Foundation, the organisation's own charity and it is hoped that clubs will run events to celebrate this milestone. One important message was to consider how much more can be achieved by Rotary Clubs working together rather than on just their own projects and activities. All of this was well received by the members.
President Pindi took the opportunity to ask DG Frank to present the 2015/16 District Snooker Tournament trophy to club members Colin Squire and John Nolan who have now won the cup on 19 occasions out of the last 30 years!
Barry Buttenshaw then made a birthday presentation on behalf of the club to Peter Lockyer who will be 95 years old on Tuesday 8th August and has been a club member for 38 years.
We were also delighted to have with us our Honorary Member Len Smith who is a Past President of Rotary GB&I and who joined the Rotary Club of Twickenham in 1958.
