Speaker: Sue Pressey, Queen Elizabeth Foundation

Mon, Jul 25th 2016 at 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

We were joined this week by Sue Pressey who came to tell us about The Queen Elizabeth Foundation (QEF) for disabled people.
QEF is a registered national disability charity based in Surrey with more than 80 years’ experience of developing innovative services which enable and support disabled people to increase independence and improve opportunities for life.
The charity currently works with between 4,000 – 4,500 children and adults with physical and learning disabilities or acquired brain injuries. Their aim is to support disabled people to allow them to fulfil their potential, whether by learning everyday life skills, rebuilding a life affected by brain injury, or acquiring the skills to drive a specially adapted car.
Sue told us about their current project to redevelop the campus at Leatherhead Court and provide a state-of-the-art 24 bedroom care and rehabilitation centre including moving the design and engineering of assistive aids for children from Epsom to a new workshop on site.
The project is costing £9m of which £8m has already been raised from the sale of land. However the balance of £1m needs to be found by fundraising and so the purpose of Sue’s visit was to tell us how Rotary can help which we are currently investigating.
Sue is available to talk to other Rotary clubs and can be reached via the contact page on the charity’s website http://qef.org.uk
