President Dave presents the award to Rosie Oberlander

Rosie Oberlander was presented with a Community Service Award by North Berwick Rotary Club at a recent meeting.
Community Service Awards are presented by the Rotary Club to people who it is considered have provided exceptional service in the community and the award is recognition for “an act or acts beyond and above what would be normally accepted. The nomination must relate to matters which impressed and which stimulated change within their own community.” The nominee can be a Rotarian or person from within the local community, but must be worthy of the recognition.
Rosemary (“Rosie”) Oberlander successfully took over the reins of Chair of North Berwick in Bloom after Peter Atkins stood down and has in recent years built on the previous successes, steering her team to achieve for the town local, national and international award after award.
Rosie is not one to shy away from getting her hands dirty and undertakes a vast amount of work herself; she is often seen in the early hours of summer mornings watering hanging baskets and tubs in the town. She is also an excellent photographer and compiles the introductory brochure and scheme plan for the judges.
She is also instrumental in co-ordinating the work that is undertaken by the Friends of the Lodge to ensure it ties in with the work the North Berwick In Bloom team carry out.
In the present climate it is difficult to raise enough funds to have the town looking at its best not only for the visits of the Britain in Bloom judges but also for the many visitors who descend on North Berwick in the summer. Despite the shadow of decreasing local authority budgets the town looks stunning thanks to the inspiration and enthusiasm of Rosie and her team.
