Present Derek Jeary, Colin Hunter, Andrew Newton, Robert Ankcorn.
Absent Bill Robinson, John Middleton.
The members of our committee who were present basically agreed to continue supporting some of the charities we had previously supported but also to introduce some new ones to us. There was a feeling to have a bit of a mix of emergency concerns, community support, children and projects which encouraged self help rather than long term aid.
Cure with particular interest in Malawi treating children with clubfoot.
Hope and Homes for Children which aims to give family and social support so that orphanages are a thing of the past. Their new project is to support young adults to have independence and be useful members of society particularly in Eastern European countries
Aquabox which provides immediate relief for disaster areas and in particular clean water for drinking. Either 1 aquaboxcommunity which can supply 500 people with clean water for a year or 2 Aquabox gold
Mercy Ships providing clinics and operating facilities for many of the poorer countries in the world.
Micro loans –although we didn’t manage to support a scheme last year the idea of self help is good and we shall continue to look for a possibility here.
500 miles Olivia Giles charity which provides modern prosthetics for disabled Africans in Malawi,Zambia and Zanzibar
District schemes in Sierra Leone and infrastructure repair in Nepal
