VSL Voluntary Driving Scheme

The VSL Driving Scheme helps residents who live in the Borough of Lewisham who would have great difficulty in using public transport on their own. The service is delivered by volunteer drivers using their own vehicles to drive older and vulnerable adults, helping them maintain their health and independence. Typically trips range from doctors and hospital appointments, day centres and social clubs. We also arrange longer journeys such as day trips to the coast, holiday journeys and transport to respite care centres.

How to Access this Service

The Voluntary Driving Scheme is available to all residents of the Borough of Lewisham. Requests for support by the Driving scheme can be made by the individual, friends or neighbours as well as:

  • Social services and other statutory agencies
  • Health service professionals
  • Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and other organisations
  • Church representatives

Anyone wishing to make a referral must complete the form below and be able to confirm that the individual is not capable of using public transport but can get in and out of a car with limited assistance. It is advisable to seek advice from an appropriate medical professional if they are not best placed to make this assessment. Please contact VSL
